Up Big River by Charles Marchant Stevenson (1970). Friends share an autumn sunset on Mendocino’s Big River. In the 1850s, eight miles of the river were altered by the local lumber company to facilitate floating harvests of old-growth redwood logs to their mill just east of Big River Bridge. The mill closed in 1939, and the Big River estuary has become wild again, a peaceful home to river otters and sea lions, belted kingfishers, snowy egrets and great blue herons. In 2002, the Big River watershed became part of the California State Park system. Serigraph (20″ x 26″). SKU: CS197003

The Image of Progress: Hexagram 35 by Charles Marchant Stevenson (1970). Inscription: “The Sun Rises over the Earth – the Image of Progress. The light of the sun as it rises over the earth is by nature clear. The higher it rises, the more it emerges from the dark mists, spreading the pristine purity of its rays over an ever widening area. The real nature of man is likewise originally good but it becomes clouded by contact with earthly things and therefore needs purification before it can shine forth in its native clarity.” – From Hexagram 35, Wilhelm-Baynes translation, I Ching: Or, Book of Changes, Bollingen Series, Princeton University Press. Serigraph (26″ x 20″). Edition of 36. SKU: CS197001
