The inscription is in Chester Anderson’s hand: “In all things, great and small, I am the Beauty of the Divine Manifestation.” In Charles Marchant Stevenson’s multiple portrait of Chester Anderson, the artist refers to Renaissance allegorical painting in which the figure of Truth is presented naked, Truth having nothing to hide.
