The Continents in the courtyard of the musée d’Orsay (right to left): , l’Océanie (Australia) by Mathurin Moreau, l’Amérique du Sud by Aimé Millet, l’Amérique du Nord by Ernest Eugène Hiolle, l’Afrique by Eugène Delaplanche, l’Asie (Alexandre Falguière), and l’Europe by Alexandre Schœnewerk.
Palais du Trocadéro (1878 Paris Exposition-Universelle). The Six Continents are just visible (three to a side), on pedestals to the left and right of the entrance. The Young Elephant is by Emmanuel Frémiet. Today it has joined the Six Continents at d’Orsay.
Commissioned for the 1878 Paris Exposition-Universelle, the Continents sit on six pedestals on either side of the entrance to the Palais du Trocadéro. Four are visible in the photo; the other two are on pedestals behind the Continents on the far left, and far right.
